I really love this song. It felt like a gift from the mysterious ether in which every now and again we dip our cups. It was written several years ago, and before Sylvie and I met. I was with my best friend and we were going to the Coachella music festival.
I had been experimenting a lot with open tunings on the guitar and as I lazily picked the strings: the main theme came out, followed almost immediately by the first lyric “I’ve studied every line that’s been prophesied…” The song was finished in a short while and needed very little editing.
Some people ask who it was written about and I like to answer that it was written for Sylvie, we just hadn’t met yet. A few lyrics have changed over the years but it remains one of the best and most honest songs I’ve ever written.
