This song was the result of another late night session. As I recall, when we first started writing it it wasn’t about Cupid at all. We just started telling a story about a guy sitting at a bar. The song had kind of a gritty noir vibe, and we wanted the story to reflect that. Was he a hitman? Was he a private eye? We tossed around a lot of ideas, and eventually we hit on Cupid. We started to wonder, what if Cupid wasn’t a charming cherub, but instead a grizzled, put-upon working stiff? We were inspired by the strangeness of it, I guess, and - after several versions of the chorus and a lot of unused verses - Cupid’s Confession was born. Sometimes we wonder what other well-known characters might be haunting Cupid’s bar. . .
