about

This one was born during a late-night songwriting session, when Trevor was messing around and throwing out random lines. Neither one of us can remember which came first, the verse or the chorus, but I do know that the song was one of our earliest successful co-writes. We’d written together a fair amount in a sort of “writer and editor” relationship - where one person was working on a song idea and the other was throwing ideas in here and there from the other room - but “Love Don’t Run on Money” was the product of a real co-writing session, purposefully sitting down to create something together. The song evolved a lot from its conception. I remember driving around Nashville picking over the chorus like a puzzle, working it and reworking it until - during a dishwashing session at home one afternoon - we finally solved it. It was hugely satisfying to create something so cooperatively, and it’s certainly true for us that love don’t run on money. We’d be in trouble if it did!

Love Don’t Run On Money
Written by Trevor Wheetman and Sylvie Davidson

If I had a little money
and I took you out
somewhere nice and fancy
way downtown
And I let you get
anything that you want
tell me now, would that get you going
would it turn the engines on?

Chorus

No no my love don't run
on money
honey time is free
and that's the only thing you need
to spend on me
My love don't run on money
My Love don't run on money, no!

But if I had a lot of money
I could buy you a house
somewhere out in the backwoods
way down south
and I could fill it up
with shiny things
Now wouldn't that get you rockin
wouldn't that make your motor sing?

Chorus

Well if I had all night
here's what I'd do:
turn the lights down low babe
and get all over you
With the radio on
you could swing your hips (I love swinging my hips)
Now wouldn't that start the countdown would it
launch your rocket ship? (YEAH BABY)
Chorus
