This song goes in the “Philosophical” section of our canon. It began its life, like so many of my songs, as a stream of consciousness. I had been messing around in an open tuning and in the time signature of 6/8 which is a particularly favorite combination of mine. The first round of lyrics are almost unrecognizable from the final with the exception of the chorus which actually was almost unchanged from my first mutterings.
The meaning behind the song is a personal belief of mine (and I believe other’s) that fear, not hate, is the opposite of love. That fear is paralyzing and insidious in a way that hate is not and by living fearlessly we give and receive much more love.
